WHAT IS AN

stamped concrete?

Stamped concrete is a form of concrete floor, that replicates stones such as bricks, tiles, flagstones, and even wood. It’s also called textured or imprinted concrete.

Benefits of

Stamped Concrete

The following are the benefits of stamped concrete:

Durability

Stamped concrete floors are just concrete with different finishing. Concrete is durable, and the sealant used at the end of the process offers a more protective coating. This floor type is used in places where there is heavy foot or car traffic, and can still last long for many years.

Enhances Outdoor Spaces

Instead of leaving your outdoor to be plain, stamped concrete can come in as an enhancer. It beautifies outdoor spaces.

Wide variety of colors and pattern choices

The colors and patterns for stamped concrete are almost limitless. This means you can customize your spaces without too much effort.

Easy to maintain

Stamped concrete when sealed is very easy to maintain. The sealant acts as a protective coating that keeps the imprinted stamps in place.

slip-resistant if a non-slip additive is added.

Since stamped concrete is used outdoor, adding no slip-additive during the installation process is very necessary. This removes the concern for falls or accidents and makes the floor safe for humans and pets.

Affordable

Installing stamped concrete costs less than installing natural stone surfaces. It also saves maintenance costs upfront if you install a poor-quality stone surface.

Our 8-STEP

Stamped Concrete Process

Stamping concrete is no easy process, but if done right by professionals, the results can be amazing.

At Baytown Polished Concrete & Staining, the following is our process for stamping concrete.

Step 1

Pouring the Concrete

Since stamped concrete cannot be installed on a dry concrete floor, if you have an old floor, we have to pour fresh concrete on it.

Step 2

Screeding the concrete.

This step is important, as it’s on this canvas the stamps will be placed. The concrete is screeded to achieve a smooth and even surface.

Step 3

Applying color hardener.

At that point where there is no bleed water anymore on the surface, we go on to apply the color hardener. This is usually done twice giving at least a 10-minute interval.

Step 4

Applying a release agent.

The release agent can be in powdered or liquid form. This is done to ensure that the stamping mats don’t stick on the concrete when they are to be removed.

Step 5

Carry out a test to see if the slab is ready.

Timing is everything. If the stamping mats are placed too early, they won’t hold. If the stamps are placed too late, it makes the job more difficult, as the concrete will dry out before the task is completed. To test, we press our finger into the slab. If it leaves a clean imprint about half an inch deep or a little less, we know the concrete is ready

Step 6

Place the first row of stamps.

The stamping mats are placed accordingly so the imprints are aligned.

Step 7

Continue with the process

We continue placing the stamping mats until we have covered the entire concrete slab

Step 8

Apply a sealant.

This step is necessary, as it helps to enhance the color of the concrete, and adds a sheen to the surface. In addition, it serves as a protective coating for the concrete, blocking dirt, dust, and chemicals.

Frequently

Asked Questions

GOT QUESTIONS ABOUT CONCRETE POLISHING? FIND ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS BELOW.

Like other floors, stamped concrete can be slippery when wet. To prevent this, we add a non-slip additive to make it slip-resistant.
It is advisable to reseal every 2 -3 years. This ensures that the protective coating for the concrete is always intact
It’s not advisable to power wash your stamp concrete. If you do this, over time, the sealant is going to break. This makes the concrete open to trapping dirt, dust, and debris, shortening the lifespan of your floor.
Routine sweeping and rinsing with water will remove dirt, dust, and debris. Never power wash. For tough stains like tire marks or oil that water might not remove, use gentle chemicals to get rid of them. Reseal from time to time to keep your stamped concrete floor intact.
